our work BFI London Film Festival 2022: A Landmark Year of Collaborations and Captures

REFLECTING ON A RECORD-BREAKING FESTIVAL FOR OUR CREATIVE SERVICES TEAM

Looking back at some of the highlights of 2022, we were thrilled to witness the return of the prestigious BFI London Film Festival. This year marked a significant milestone for DMS as we partnered with studios, streamers, and indie distributors, powering through a record number of shoots throughout the festival’s ten-day run.

Our Creative Services team captured 11 events in 10 days, covering a wide range of formats, including red carpet premieres, press junkets, and Q&A sessions for some of the year’s most highly anticipated films. These included major releases such as Roald Dahl’s Matilda: The Musical, The Woman King, Aftersun, Decision to Leave, Alcarràs, Close, and Emily the Criminal.

At the Matilda: The Musical LFF Premiere, we partnered with AKA to capture B-roll footage and testimonials that were used to promote both the film and the Matilda theatre play.

Additionally, our team was the house crew for the Matilda press conference, working closely with the Sony Pictures Entertainment team to record the Q&A with the cast. This footage was quickly ingested and delivered to media outlets and social platforms, resized into various formats to suit each platform’s needs.

Finally, we covered a press junket for Tim Minchin, the musical lead behind Matilda. Filmed in-person at the Charlotte Street Hotel, we handled the full production process; from filming interviews to managing the post-production, ensuring the content was available for both media and social use.

For our friends at Mubi, we were on hand for several of their titles including two major releases. For the hotly anticipated Aftersun, we captured the press junket featuring lead actors Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio. The footage was immediately processed for media and social platforms, ensuring maximum exposure for the critically acclaimed film. Our team also captured the Aftersun Q&A, which was swiftly distributed to the press, helping generate buzz for the film.

Mubi’s other key title was Park Chan-wook’s Decision to Leave. At a hybrid junket taking place in the Corinthiawe provided additional coordination support, working with a remote translator to ensure smooth communication during the Q&A.

Our team captured the session and handled the rapid turnaround to press outlets, making the footage available for distribution in multiple languages.

Our team was also on hand to capture Q&A sessions for the Mubi films Close and Alcarràs. As with the other productions, we ensured a prompt and seamless process, distributing the footage to press and media outlets shortly after filming.

Nearby at the Soho Hotel, we also covered the Emily the Criminal junket for Universal Pictures. We recorded interviews with key talent, including Aubrey Plaza and director John Patton Ford. Our rapid post-production and delivery process ensured that the footage reached media outlets promptly, maximizing the film’s visibility across platforms.

What set this year apart was the agility and expertise of our production teams, who worked tirelessly to provide quick turnarounds for all content. Whether on the ground during filming, in post-production, or in the final delivery stages to UK media outlets via our PANTHER ONLINE® asset management platform, we ensured an efficient and seamless process for our partners.

Being able to offer a comprehensive end-to-end service was essential to our clients, and the experience of working closely with them during our busiest festival to date was nothing short of incredible.

We are proud to have played a role in bringing these remarkable stories to life during one of the UK’s biggest cinematic events.
