We are always striving to support the brightest talents here and have undergone a period of great expansion throughout the business; over the last year, our team has grown to 160 people. 19 graduates passed through our DMS Academy Scheme in 2019, 10 of whom have gained promotions to more senior positions within our team. This expansion of the DMS family brings a whole raft of talents and personalities who herald from over 30 countries and speak approximately 60 languages between them! Our people are vital in making DMS an inspiring place to work and we are sincerely proud of our growing, talented and vibrant global workforce.

This week also brings a very important new team member through our doors. DMS warmly welcomes Carolyn Mc Keon, who joins us as our new Talent Manager. Working with the HR department, Carolyn will be working with department heads and managers to continue our expansion of the DMS team, helping us to reach more talented and passionate applicants.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role as Talent Manager at DMS?

I’m looking forward to working with you (but that’s a given!), finding some awesome talent and really getting involved at making DMS the best place to work in London (insert cheesy emoji here).

Ahead of her first week at DMS, we reached out to Carolyn to find out a bit more about her.

Hi Carolyn! Tell us a little bit about your background.

I have worked in recruitment for over 8 years across Media, Film and TV Industries. My degree is actually in Anthropology which has really helped in understanding elements of this line of work such as human interaction. Ultimately, I really have a passion for helping people with their career and matching candidates according to the right culture.

What do you love about working in Talent and Recruitment?

My favourite thing about talent is really building relationships with candidates and helping them map out their future careers. It’s not just placing someone in a role, it’s helping them decide on the right path to take in tune with their own personal drivers.

What do you think is key to a strong company culture?

Company culture is extremely important, everybody needs to know they’re valued and part of a wider purpose. Creating a brilliant environment makes people more collaborative, happier, and not afraid to have their say when contributing new ideas to add value (in an agile way). The key to maintaining a strong and positive workplace culture is ongoing communication, whether that be with the team or line manager. Also mentoring and buddy systems have proven to work out quite well. This doesn’t just mean good communication in regular meetings, but also a “no idea is a silly idea” policy throughout a workplace! Even in recruitment, deals fall through or unexpected things happen so I believe that encouraging positivity even when things don’t work out is very important. I like to see every hurdle as a new opportunity to grow either as an individual or as a business. This is 100% achievable with the right team and attitude behind you.

Tell us a little bit about you, what are you into?

My hobbies are travelling and music. I’ve travelled quite a bit, but my favourite place was Zimbabwe Matobo National Park where I did a bungy jump in South Africa… which I will NEVER EVER do again! I also play piano, bit out of practice at the moment! I also run events in my spare time. One event was a 100-year celebration of my estate being built in Putney. We had South London Jazz Orchestra attend and the Mayor of the Borough (my claim to fame!). I love going to music gigs. My last one was Sofar Sounds in the Samsung Building and we got to hear a band called “Bailen” play which was awesome. I’ll definitely be dragging the team to a few, although they can be hit or miss but always worthwhile 😉.

Needless to say, we’re pretty big movie buffs here. What’s your favourite movie?

My favourite movie always fluctuates, usually around the below;

  • The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, of course!
  • Argo as I can’t believe this actually happened
  • Sing Street which is a very sweet Irish movie on Netflix
  • The Matrix as it’s just a classic
  • Gladiator for its classic lines and killer soundtrack: ‘I knew a man who once said, “Death smiles at us all. All a man can do is smile back.”’ – Maximus

We think Carolyn is going to fit in very well indeed at DMS and we are looking forward to working with her.
