Known for his boldness, generosity, and deep love of cinema, Lomis was honored with a night of moving tributes and support for the Pioneers Assistance Fund, raising an impressive $1.2 million to benefit film industry professionals in need.
The Philadelphia-born Lomis, who passed away suddenly in March, was celebrated by many who had worked closely with him, including director Michael B. Jordan, who recalled Lomis’s passion and dedication to his final release, Creed III. A surprise tribute from Philadelphia Eagles radio announcer Merrill Reese and a live appearance from Eagles mascot Swoop brought a touch of Lomis’s hometown pride into the room. Lomis’s widow, Patricia Laucella, accepted the award on his behalf, creating a powerful moment for the many gathered to honor his career and impact.
Longtime friend and Paramount’s domestic distribution head Chris Aronson, who hosted the event, spoke of Lomis as an “inspirational leader who had an impact wherever he went.” The tribute reel also included director Paul Thomas Anderson, who fondly recalled Lomis’s dynamic personality and their years of collaboration on films like The Master and Licorice Pizza, capturing his larger-than-life presence and fierce loyalty to the theatrical experience.
